Integrated cancer prevention through lifestyle-related risk factors: adaptation and implementation of the WHO BRIEF approach (PEACHD)<\/h3><\/div>

Cancer is responsible for almost a quarter of all annual deaths in the World Health Organization (WHO) European Region. This figure will increase by more than 34% by 2040. In Europe, inequalities in cancer are observed between different populations and the most disadvantaged socioeconomic groups<\/strong> are disproportionately affected. Furthermore, the demand for healthcare is exceeding the resources available in European health systems, especially in those countries that host a greater number of refugees. This fact highlights the urgent need to implement effective and efficient prevention initiatives. In this sense, the WHO proposes carrying out brief interventions<\/strong> that integrate various modifiable risk factors to promote healthy lifestyles.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\tObjectives<\/strong><\/span><\/div>

The PEACHD project<\/a> (EU4H-2022-PJ-3)<\/strong> aims to develop and evaluate an integrated brief intervention<\/strong> for detection and counseling of the main modifiable risk factors for chronic diseases (smoking, alcohol, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, obesity and sun exposure) based on the WHO BRIEF model, which will be offered and evaluated in several countries in Europe.

The specific objectives of PEACHD are:

– Develop a face-to-face program<\/strong> and a digital tool<\/strong> to carry out the brief integrated intervention of various modifiable risk factors.
– Offer training on brief integrated intervention to healthcare professionals, mainly in primary and community care.
– Offer and evaluate integrated intervention to 31,000 people<\/strong> from the general population, taking into account the socioeconomic level and the axes of inequality of the populations, especially if it is an immigrant or exiled population.
<\/p><\/div><\/div>

\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\tMethods<\/strong><\/span><\/div>

PEACHD is a project within the Science of Implementation framework<\/strong> that will adapt, implement and evaluate the WHO-EU BRIEF approach in different European contexts, with a particular focus on supporting displaced populations in Ukraine and lower socioeconomic groups to address health inequalities.
The action will use a participatory process to align with the objectives of the EU Joint Action on Cancer and other non-communicable diseases and to define, co-create and adapt intervention tools.
These tools will be tested to determine their viability in three EU Member States: Poland<\/strong> , the Czech Republic<\/strong> and Spain<\/strong> (Catalonia). Special attention will be paid to two vulnerable groups: immigrants and displaced people (particularly Ukrainian refugees) and populations of low socioeconomic status. <\/p><\/div><\/div>
