Tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke in adults<\/h3><\/div>

Tobacco use is the most important cause of premature morbidity and mortality. The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) provide European Union Member States with policies aimed at reducing the initiation of tobacco use, increasing cessation rates and reducing the demand for tobacco products.

The International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project was a pioneer in the systematic evaluation of the policies included in the FCTC at a population level in different countries. As part of this project, a study has been proposed to evaluate the impact of DPT at a European level in the context of the FCTC, entitled European Regulatory Science on Tobacco: Policy implementation to reduce lung diseases (EURESTPLUS). This study has constituted a cohort of 1000 smokers in each of the 6 participating countries (Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Spain), who have been interviewed in 2016 and 2018.

The project entitled \u201cTobacco consumption and exposure to environmental and residual tobacco smoke in adults: EURESTPLUS-Spain cohorts\u201d has a dual purpose: a) extend the monitoring of the Spanish cohort of smokers from the EURESTPLUS study, and b) constitute a new cohort of non-smokers who live with a smoker and objectively study their exposure to environmental and residual tobacco smoke.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\tObjectives<\/strong><\/span><\/div>

– Determine the changes in the pattern of tobacco consumption and its determinants after the transposition of the European directive on tobacco products in Spain.
– Characterize exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and its determinants in the non-smoking population.
– Characterize exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke and its determinants in a non-smoking population.

Monitoring of the Spanish cohort of smokers from the EURESTPLUS study and creation of a new cohort of non-smokers (and smokers).
EURESTPLUS-Spain Cohort: Monitoring of the cohort of approximately 1000 adult smokers. The same face-to-face questionnaire used in the previous waves of the study is used.

EURESTPLUS-BCN Cohort: Creation of a sample of 100 non-smokers who live with smokers to obtain baseline information. A questionnaire on exposure to tobacco smoke is used and objective markers of use and exposure to environmental and residual tobacco smoke are used.<\/p><\/div><\/div>
