EUREST-PLUS: European tobacco regulation: implementing policies to reduce lung diseases<\/h3><\/div>

Smoking and other forms of tobacco use are considered the leading cause of preventable morbidity and premature mortality worldwide. Efforts to reduce the devastation of tobacco-related deaths and diseases in the EU consist of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) and the gradual implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\tObjectives<\/strong><\/span><\/div>

The main objective of EUREST-PLUS is to monitor and evaluate the impact of the TPD in the context of the ratification of the FCTC at European level. These TPD articles address issues related to tobacco product ingredients, additives, reporting, packaging, labelling, illicit trade, cross-border sales and e-cigarettes.

\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/path><\/svg>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\tMethodology<\/strong><\/span><\/div>

To achieve the main objective of the project, four specific tasks have been identified and the corresponding methodology has been defined:
The psychosocial and behavioral impact of the implementation of the DPT will be evaluated by creating a cohort study of adult smokers in six EU member states (Germany, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Spain) in a pre- and post-study design.
Support for the implementation of the DPT will be assessed through secondary analyses of datasets from the 2015 Special Eurobarometer Survey on Tobacco and through trend analysis of merged datasets from the 2009, 2012 and 2015 SETS data.
Changes in the parameters of the electronic cigarette product (technical design, labeling, packaging and chemical composition) after the implementation of Article 20 of the DPT must be documented.
Sharing and comparisons between EU countries of the International Tobacco Control Project (ICT) and other non-EU countries will be carried out to enhance innovative joint research collaborations.<\/p><\/div><\/div>
