Background<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Irritability is an important symptom that has been identified in individuals that quit smoking. It has a prevalence of 80% in patients that initiates specific treatment to quit smoking (Fagerstr\u00f6m, 2002; Hughes & Hatsukami, 1986). 48 hours after the last cigarette, those patients feel an increase of their irritability. Since this moment, that irritability decreases intensively (Ward, Swan, & Jack, 2001). In previous studies, it has been observed that the increase of irritability is a predictor of relapses (Patterson, Kerrin, Wileyto, & Lerman, 2008).<\/p>\n

Overall Objective<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The main objective of the study is the calibration and validation of the items related to menatal health(PROMIS) in Spain. Those items evaluate depression, anxiety and irritability\/ire in clinical and general population samples.<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This is an observational study with patients that initiate treatment to quit smoking. This study has baseline and 2 follow-up evaluations.<\/p>\n

Evaluation<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Several evaluations are planned: (1) PROMIS score of the three scales (irritability, depression and anxiety); (2) basal and follow-up estimations; (3) convergent-discriminant validity (analysis of the matrix Multitraits-Multimethod); (4) validity of the known groups; (5) sensibility to change of the follow-up instruments; (6) significance and magnitude of the changes of the patients\u2019 score during the follow-up (ANCOVA and ANOVA).<\/p>\n
