{"id":10298,"date":"2024-07-04T09:32:35","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T08:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/?p=10298"},"modified":"2024-07-04T09:33:02","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T08:33:02","slug":"the-uct-expands-its-cross-functional-team-with-three-new-hires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/en\/the-uct-expands-its-cross-functional-team-with-three-new-hires\/","title":{"rendered":"The UCT expands its cross-functional team with three new hires"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Tobacco Control Unit (UCT) of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) has recently welcomed&nbsp;<strong>three new members<\/strong>&nbsp;to its cross-functional team: two new researchers and a communications specialist.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Isabel Barroso<\/strong>, who wholds a degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Barcelona (UB) and a Master\u2019s degree in Preventive Medicine and Public Health from the University of Granada, joins the team as a researcher on the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/en\/portfolio\/sfh\/\">\u2018Smoke-free Homes\u2019 project.<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;This initiative, addressed to families with children whose parents smoke, aims to adapt and test the effectiveness of an intervention consisting of various activities for families to learn about the benefits of not smoking at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Laura Perdiguero<\/strong>, who joins the unit as a project manager, studied Physiotherapy at the University of Valladolid. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in August 2021 to pursue a Master\u2019s degree in Public Health and Epidemiology at the University of South Florida (USF), in the United States. Throughout her professional career she has worked as a research assistant at USF and also as a&nbsp;<strong>neurological physiotherapist<\/strong>&nbsp;at the Cerebral Palsy Association (ASPACE). Her main research interests include social determinants of health, behavioural change, implementation science and global health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Clara F\u00e1bregas<\/strong>\u00a0joins the team as the new communications officer. She holds a degree in Journalism and has worked for several\u00a0<strong>media outlets<\/strong>. She will be in charge of bringing greater visibility to the UCT\u2019s activities and communicating the right messages about the reality of smoking to society in general through the media. In addition, she will manage both internal and external communications for the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/en\/portfolio\/towards-large-scale-adaption-and-tailored-implementation-of-evidence-based-primary-cancer-prevention-programmes-in-europe-and-beyond-pieces\/\">\u2018PIECES Project\u2019<\/a><\/strong>, an initiative funded by the European Union that aims to develop, evaluate and disseminate a tool that will facilitate the implementation of cancer prevention programmes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-a9169c86 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\"
