{"id":14425,"date":"2025-09-30T10:01:48","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T09:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/second-annual-meeting-of-the-ped-cluster-advancing-cancer-prevention-in-europe\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T10:15:41","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T09:15:41","slug":"second-annual-meeting-of-the-ped-cluster-advancing-cancer-prevention-in-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/en\/second-annual-meeting-of-the-ped-cluster-advancing-cancer-prevention-in-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Second annual meeting of the P&amp;ED Cluster: advancing cancer prevention in Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Second Annual Meeting of the Prevention and Early Detection (P&amp;ED) Cluster \u2013 Implementation Research recently took place in Barcelona, hosted by the <strong>Public Health Agency of Catalonia<\/strong> and organized by members of the <strong>PIECES Project<\/strong>, coordinated by the Tobacco Control Unit.<\/p>\n\n<p>The event brought together representatives of the six projects that make up the Cluster \u2014 <strong>PIECES, ONCODIR, CPW (Cancer Prevention at Work), PREVENT and 4P-CAN<\/strong> \u2014 for an exchange of knowledge, progress and future directions. Throughout the meeting, participants reflected on the successes achieved during the last year as a cluster and explored opportunities to align efforts and strengthen collaboration between the different working groups. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>The First P&amp;ED Cluster Round Table<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>A major highlight of the event was the inaugural P&amp;ED Cluster Round Table, titled: <strong><em>\u201cFrom Research to Practice: Implementing Effective Cancer Prevention Strategies Across Europe\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>This dynamic session fostered a debate between speakers and attendees, highlighting the urgent need to translate scientific research into practical strategies that have a real impact on cancer prevention across Europe.<\/p>\n\n<p>The round table was moderated by<strong> Dr. Wolfgang Fecke<\/strong>, Executive Director of the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL), and featured expert panelists from across the Cluster:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Anna Schneider-Kamp<\/strong><br \/> <em>Cancer Prevention at Work (CPW)<\/em><br \/> PhD, Associate Professor, University of Southern Denmark<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thanassis Mavropoulos<\/strong><br \/> <em>ONCODIR Project<\/em><br \/> Project Coordinator, Postdoctoral Researcher, Institute of Information Technologies (ITI), Hellas Center for Research and Technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bethany Hipple Walters<\/strong><br \/> <em>PIECES Project<\/em><br \/> PhD, senior researcher, Trimbos Institute for Mental Health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Joy Ngo<\/strong><br \/> <em>PREVENT EU Project<\/em><br \/> Researcher, IDIAPJGol (Jordi Gol Primary Health Care Research Institute)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Marius the shared mission of these projects: to promote effective, scalable and evidence-based solutions for the prevention and early detection of cancer, and to support their implementation in various European healthcare systems.<\/p>\n\n<p>As the P&amp;ED Cluster continues to advance its work, this meeting represented an important step in building a collaborative foundation to help reduce the
