This year\u2019s edition placed particular emphasis on emerging forms of nicotine consumption\u2014such as vaping devices\u2014and on the need to advance towards stricter legislative frameworks to protect the population, especially young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ast-global-color-2-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-c023f94d9d22b5e3aded2a65f9d57d89\">First prize for research on health messages and vaping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The scientific programme featured round tables, keynote lectures and oral and poster presentations. In this context, <strong>David Fern\u00e1ndez Lavado<\/strong>, a researcher at the UCT, presented the study <em>\u201cSaying It Positively or Negatively? The Effect of Health Messages on Vaping in Adolescents\u201d<\/em>, which received the <strong>first prize for best oral communication<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study, carried out in collaboration with <strong>WHO Europe<\/strong> and the <strong>Univerist\u00e9 Libre de Bruxelles,<\/strong> examines the impact of a prototype video and ten health messages\u2014five framed positively and five negatively\u2014on various risks linked to the use of electronic cigarettes, such as lung damage or seizures. The aim is to create a <strong>clear, standardised and effective communication framework<\/strong> to increase risk perception among adolescents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ast-global-color-2-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-ad75a669ff24df04054257c37f5756a7\">A strong contribution from the UCT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the award\u2011winning study, other members of the unit presented scientific communications that highlight the team\u2019s <strong>solid research activity<\/strong> and ongoing commitment to reducing
