{"id":6754,"date":"2019-11-21T10:21:26","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T09:21:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/?p=6754\/"},"modified":"2019-11-21T10:23:08","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T09:23:08","slug":"3-month-research-stay-at-the-union-south-east-asia-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icoprevencio.cat\/uct\/en\/3-month-research-stay-at-the-union-south-east-asia-office\/","title":{"rendered":"3-month research stay at the Union South-East Asia Office"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of the Tobacco Control Unit\nmembers, Bela, has started her 3-months research stay in The Union South-East\nAsia (USEA) Region office in New Delhi, India since the beginning of this month.\nUnder the mentorship of Dr. Rana J Singh, her stay aims to understand the\ncurrent status of e-cigarette regulation and context in South-East Asia region.\nTo achieve it, she will conduct a survey to experts from 7 countries of the\nUSEA region: India,&nbsp; Bangladesh, Myanmar,\nNepal,&nbsp; Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and\nMaldives. Additionally, she will have an opportunity to evaluate the compliance\nof Indian\u2019s prohibition on e-cigarette sale in any forms. To assess the\ncompliance, the USEA team and she will check the availability of e-cigarette\nsales in shops and kiosks in several cities across India, and investigate any\nonline retailers that still offer e-cigarette products to be purchased in\nIndia. The institution provides public health\nexpertise to the region\u2019s governments, civil society, corporations, and\ninternational agencies. While USEA\u2019s work focuses on tuberculosis control,\ntobacco control efforts have advanced via several initiatives, including\nsupport of 16 Bloomberg Initiatives grantees.
