What is the study ?
The participants in the COLSCREEN study are completely voluntary and unpaid. They will help us carry out scientific investigation progress in knowing more about cancer.
The participant should contact the Catalan Institute of Oncology calling 93.260.71.22.
The project requires clinical and biological samples from individuals with the aim to improve colorectal cancer screening.
An epidemiological questionnaire will be administered by trained personnel in a face-to-face interview asking about the personal and family medical history (illnesses, medication), lifestyle and perceived risk of cancer. In addition, blood samples and anthropometric data will be obtained (weight, height and waist) and the patient will be requested a stool sample.
Finally,
- If the result of your stool is negative: you would undergo a colonoscopy for free.
- If the result of your stool is positive: we would take advantage of the colonoscopy that you were recommended to undergo.
Colonoscopy is performed in the following hospitals, according to your home: University Hospital of Bellvitge, Viladecans Hospital and Moisès Broggi Hospital.
During a colonoscopy the doctor will perform biopsies of healthy colon tissue for research.
