What is a colonoscopy?
The lower gastrointestinal endoscopy (also called colonoscopy) is a test that allows your doctor to look at the inner lining of your large intestine (rectum and colon). The test consists in inserting, through the anus, a flexible tube with a small camera at its tip to get the end of the colon.
This is the most effective exploration for colorectal cancer prevention. If any polyp is detected, it can be easily removed during the procedure. For this reason, it’s not only a diagnostic tool, but it can also be a therapeutic procedure.
