Last Friday, October 15, the EPIBELL seminar series of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) hosted an inspiring conference by Dr. Mark Parascandola , director of the Research and Training Branch of the Center for Global Health of the National Cancer Institute (NCI, USA).
In his presentation entitled “Implementation Science for Global Cancer Control” , Dr. Parascandola explained how scientific evidence can be effectively translated into concrete actions to reduce the global burden of cancer, especially in low- and middle-income countries. He stressed the importance of implementation science in bringing research closer to public policy and promoting impactful interventions that strengthen cancer prevention and control around the world.
The NCI Research and Training Branch, under his direction, leads numerous international initiatives focused on scientific collaboration, capacity building, and training in cancer control. With more than 75 scientific publications, Dr. Parascandola is internationally recognized for his contributions to cancer prevention, tobacco control, and epidemiology , and has served as editor of key reports such as The Economics of Tobacco and Tobacco Control (NCI/WHO) and Smokeless Tobacco and Public Health: A Global Perspective (NCI/CDC).
