Psychologist and researcher at the Tobacco Control Unit (UCT), Laura Antón, delivered one of the highlights at the 19th Congress of the Société Francophone de Tabacologie (CSFT 2025), held at the Caen Congress Center on November 27, under the theme “Tabac: tous concernés!”.
During her presentation, titled “The Catalan Experience,” Antón offered a comprehensive and practical overview of Catalonia’s experience in creating smoke-free spaces and institutions. She shared with the audience over twenty years of the Catalan Network of Smoke-Free Hospitals, detailing how programs have been implemented, the resources available to member centers, and tobacco control strategies in hospitals.
Her presentation was recognized as an inspiring and replicable model, especially for regions with less established tobacco control traditions. In a context where tobacco and nicotine product use is diverse and widespread, the Catalan experience serves as a practical and effective benchmark.
Through this presentation, the UCT reinforces the central message of the congress: tobacco is an issue that affects us all and requires joint involvement.
