Ayaka Teshima, a researcher at the Tobacco Control Unit, defended her doctoral thesis on March 4 titled “Burden of smoking and the impact of tobacco control policy in the European Union” at the Bellvitge Campus of the University of Barcelona. The defense was graded as excellent.
The thesis was supervised by Dr. Esteve Fernández, Secretary of Public Health of the Department of Health and former head of the Tobacco Control Unit, and by Dr. Cristina Martínez, the current head of the unit. The evaluation committee was composed of Prof. Josep María Borràs, Dr. María José López Medina, and Prof. Ute Mons.
