Two early-stage researchers, awarded with the INPhINIT doctoral fellowships, have chosen to perform their pre-doctoral research under the projects of the Tobacco Control Unit of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO). INPhINIT fellowship programme is promoted by the “la Caixa” Foundation and the Horizon 2020 Marie Curie of the European Union with the aim of supporting the best scientific talent and fostering innovative and high-quality research in Spain by recruiting outstanding international students, or national students who have coursed their Masters abroad, and offering them an attractive and competitive environment for conducting research of excellence.

57 early-stage researchers were selected out of the 438 applications received and they were granted with the INPhINIT doctoral fellowships. Two grant awardees have chosen the H2020 projects ‘TackSHS’ and ‘EUREST-PLUS’, led by Esteve Fernandez, head of the Tobacco Control Unit. “We offer a thrilling opportunity for pre-doctoral researchers willing to carry out a researcher career in the field of tobacco control and public health”, said Esteve Fernandez, when asked about this new project.
