Annual meeting of the PIECES project consortium in Florence, Italy

The second Annual Meeting of the PIECES project Consortium, coordinated by the Tobacco Control Unit of the Catalan Institute of Oncology, was successfully held in Florence (Italy) on May 18-19. The event brought together partners from 15 countries and provided a dynamic platform to review progress, exchange ideas and strengthen collaborative ties across the consortium.

The meeting, organized by ISPRO partners, marked an important milestone in the project calendar. Partners presented the main updates of their respective work packages, reflected on the achievements made to date and collaborated in the development of strategic plans for the next phases of the project.

The meeting’s discussions focused on several important areas:

  • Preliminary results of the PIECES study : The consortium examined the initial results of the *PIECES Study, which evaluates the effectiveness and feasibility of the Primary Cancer Prevention Implementation Toolkit ( PCP- IT).
  • Implementation site progress: Updates were shared from nine implementation sites across Europe, located in countries including Spain, the Netherlands, Albania, the United Kingdom, Italy, Ukraine, Germany and Ireland.
  • Stakeholder engagement and dissemination : Effective stakeholder engagement remains critical for *PIECES. The meeting emphasized the importance of rapidly disseminating results to policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the general public, as well as planning for the long-term sustainability and scalability of project results.

The Florence meeting was also a valuable opportunity to network in person, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration that underpins the PIECES project. Partners shared lessons learned, exchanged views and identified synergies to optimize the impact of cancer prevention efforts.
