On November 13 and 14, Dr. Cristina Martínez, head of the Tobacco Control Unit at ICO, participated in two academic events focused on the need to bridge the gap that still exists between scientific knowledge and its application in clinical and community practice.
On November 13, as part of the SEMyC Congress, Dr. Martínez co-led a workshop with Dr. Francisco Camarelles, dedicated to analyzing how to reduce the gap between available evidence and daily clinical practice in primary care. The session, attended by over 150 participants, featured a dynamic and interactive format and allowed for the sharing of concrete strategies to improve the adoption of effective interventions.
The following day, November 14, Dr. Martínez delivered a lecture at the Public Health Group of the University of Alcalá de Henares, where she delved further into these concepts and highlighted the crucial role of implementation science. During the session, she emphasized that this discipline is key to reducing the approximately 17 years that often pass between the generation of evidence and its real-world application in the health system, as well as to advancing disease prevention and improving public health.
Through these interventions, the UCT reinforces its commitment to knowledge transfer and the integration of evidence-based practices at all levels of the health system.
