La Marató de 3Cat 2025, which this year focused on cancer, featured a keynote by Montse Fernández, a nurse specializing in tobacco control at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO). Fernández highlighted the many toxic—and often carcinogenic—components of tobacco, stressing that continued smoking dramatically increases the risk of developing multiple types of cancer.
She emphasized prevention and the crucial role quitting smoking plays not only in lowering cancer risk but also in improving outcomes for those already diagnosed.
