Our predoctoral researcher, Ayaka Teshima, had the great opportunity to attend the FILTERED conference “Challenging Big Industry Narratives: Alcohol, Tobacco, Unhealthy Food, and Drinks” held from June 27th to 28th in Ljubljana, Slovenia, as a youth delegate.
This conference, organized by the European Alcohol Policy Alliance (Eurocare) and the International Youth Health Organization, focused on non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention, NCD risk factors, Commercial Determinants of Health, and population-wide prevention measures. Through panel debates featuring public health professionals, health advocates, and medical societies, Ayaka gained in-depth knowledge related to integrated approaches to address the main risk factors of cancer and other NCDs.
In addition to her research on tackling the smoking epidemic, Ayaka gained valuable insights into advocacy and communication, emphasizing the importance of including and hearing youth voices in public health actions.
