The Unit researchers continue to collaborate with ENSP within EUREST-RISE

Dr. Marcela Fu and Prof. Esteve Fernández, senior researchers at the Tobacco Control Unit (TCU), have started in mid-March short-term secondments at the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP). This collaboration is conducted in the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Programme-RISE project, EUREST-RISE, an initiative that aims to support an integrative series of research studies to facilitate the training of researchers in tobacco control.

Within this collaboration, Marcela and Esteve will analyze the contents of the different editions of the tobacco supplements within the Eurobarometer, a pan-European survey that started to include information on tobacco products since 1992. The secondments aim at acquiring knowledge of the Eurobarometer for describing and monitoring the tobacco epidemic, conducting research about its determinants, and assessing cross-country trends in tobacco use. The work conducted within the secondments also counts with the participation of Ms. Ayaka Teshima, doctoral student, and Dr. Armando Peruga, senior researcher, both from the TCU, Dr. Constantine Vardavas from ENSP and EUREST-RISE Principal Investigator, as well as Dr. Filippos Filippidis and Dr. Anthony Laverty, lecturers at Imperial College London.

The ultimate goal of the secondment is to produce a set of recommendations for the European Commission to update the current Eurobarometer tobacco and nicotine module to the new challenges in tobacco control, such as the emergence of novel tobacco products.
