UCT Leads Workshop on Implementation Science Organized by the “La Caixa” Foundation

The Dr. Cristina Martinez Dr. Cristina Martínez, Head of the Tobacco Control Unit at the Institut Català d’Oncologia and Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona, recently led a workshop on implementation science in public health, organized by the “La Caixa” Foundation. The session also featured Dr. Mònica Guxens, researcher at ISGlobal. Dr. Mònica Guxens.

The workshop took place at the Palau Macaya on February 17 as part of the series “Prevention and Health Promotion: From Evidence to Action,” under the scientific direction of Dr. Miquel Porta. This initiative combines public lectures with specialized workshops and is promoted in the context of the new call for research projects aimed at developing and evaluating health interventions for prevention and health promotion.

The session focused on bridging the gap between scientific evidence and real-world practice. Participants explored the theoretical foundations of implementation science and discussed practical examples of preventive interventions, engaging in interactive discussions that connected theory with hands-on experience.

Around a dozen national experts in health promotion and disease prevention attended, representing various organizations. The workshop highlighted key barriers and enabling factors for effective implementation, emphasizing the importance of planning interventions from the outset with careful attention to context, stakeholders, and long-term sustainability.

A summary of the workshop’s findings will be published in May 2026.
