UCT contributes to the National JA PreventNCD Conference in Madrid

The Tobacco Control Unit (UCT) of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) took part in the National JA PreventNCD Conference, held on 28 September at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. The event brought together public health professionals, policymakers, researchers and representatives of organisations involved in health promotion and the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The Catalan Institute of Oncology is one of more than 100 organisations participating in this European initiative, which aims to reduce the burden of cancer and other non-communicable diseases, as well as their associated risk factors. JA PreventNCD promotes a comprehensive approach to prevention, addressing both individual and population-level interventions, and supports Member States in the development and implementation of evidence-based policies.

The conference provided an opportunity to present the objectives and main areas of work of JA PreventNCD, while fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration among the different stakeholders involved. The programme featured contributions from representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Health and other public administrations, alongside sessions focusing on key issues in NCD prevention.

As part of the session “Policies for Environments Free from Unhealthy Products: Tobacco and Alcohol”, Marcela Fu, researcher at the UCT, presented the tobacco control activities being carried out within Joint Action PreventNCD and their implementation in Spain.
