UCT attends the second annual meeting of Joint Action SAFE in Athens

The Tobacco Control Unit (UCT) of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) participated in the second annual meeting of the Joint Action SAFE consortium , held in Athens from 21 to 23 October. As leader of Work Package 5 (WP5), focused on promoting a smoke- and aerosol-free Europe, the ICO team coordinated the session corresponding to this work package on 21 October.

The meeting, in a hybrid format, brought together representatives from all the member states of the European Union, with the participation of more than 60 institutions both in person and online. During the sessions, the partners presented the activities developed during the first year of the project and agreed on the main lines of work for the coming years, with special attention to the program planned for the second year.

Among the planned actions are the launch of the SAFE Knowledge Hub and the first webinars, the preparation of fieldwork on exposure to smoke and aerosols in different European countries, as well as the evaluation of the application of SAFE legislation in the 27 Member States of the European Union.

The working sessions allowed sharing the progress achieved so far and strengthening the collaboration between the different working groups of the project.

The UCT thanks the JA-SAFE coordinating team, led by Professor Constantine Vardavas of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, for organizing the meeting, as well as the contributions and presentations of all the participating partners. The team is looking forward to the start of the second year of the project and the new challenges posed by the deployment of its activities.
