World No Tobacco Day 2025: “Do you know someone who smokes? Help them quit!”

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2025 (May 31), the Tobacco Control Unit (UCT) team of the Catalan Institute of Oncology has installed several information tables in the hospital to promote a tobacco-free life. As a novelty this year, the unit has launched a special campaign aimed at non-smokers , to motivate them to help family members, friends or acquaintances in their environment to quit smoking.

People who have approached the information stands have received a brochure with recommendations to help someone quit smoking and with information to contact the specialized consultation of the Tobacco Control Unit. Smokers have also approached the tables, who have been able to find out the levels of carbon monoxide in their lungs and their lung capacity, in addition to receiving useful information to quit smoking.

Beyond the information tables, the UCT has participated in the recording of a video produced by the Catalan Institute of Oncology with the aim of debunking myths about electronic cigarettes and informing the public about the tactics used by the industry to manipulate the appearance and appeal of tobacco and nicotine products.

The unit has also disseminated messages through social networks and members of the team have been interviewed by various media outlets:

“The New Smoking” – 30 minutes (TV3)

“A new law will ban smoking on terraces” – L’altaveu (RTVE)

“The case of Óscar Notario: When quitting smoking is a gamble on life” – L’H Digital

“21.4% of the population over 15 years old smokes” – ONDA CERO
